The People’s Mayor

The People’s Mayor

As the People’s Mayor, I will restore power back to you through your Mayor & Councillor. In the last 10 years, elected officials have slowly lost control and we need to bring that back with better governance for you, the taxpayer and resident.

• I will have your back, always listen to you and deal with your concerns immediately and promptly.
• I have endured life’s experiences and can relate to your struggles. I feel your frustration now and will work hard for you all to make your lives more affordable and liveable in Kawartha Lakes.

Responsible Spending

As we approach a half Billion-dollar Capital and Operating budget, we need to be even more careful with our debt and spending with regard to the size of our local government and if it is serving you well. I will lessen our dependence on debt with innovative local equity financing solutions.

Customer Service Revamp

I will introduce bold initiatives to put your needs first, such as revamping Customer Service, to enable you to get answers right away through your Councillor or Mayor. No more waiting weeks for answers. Information will be instant and available for you. Councillors and Mayor will have open communications between them and management so you can get answers and issues resolved immediately.

Affordable, Liveable Communities and Job Creation

Making your life more affordable by attracting new business and retaining existing businesses and employment. I will stop the closure of businesses in our Municipality and will take steps to keep them here. Right now, we are in danger of losing many employers, however I will make sure they stay for generations to come. I will bring back the commercial development charge exemption we had for businesses and eliminate the $40,000 tax imposed on new home builds. I will also streamline the planning process for all applicants — small, medium and large. This will stimulate our housing construction sector and provide more affordable housing for all.

Support for Agriculture

I will strongly support agriculture and related businesses in Kawartha Lakes by streamlining the approval process for farmers thereby supporting and allowing them to produce our food safely and efficiently. I will also support supply management and our balanced trade position as we enter crucial trade talks which affect us locally.

Better Roads & Streets

Change Minimum Maintenance Standards to Maximum Maintenance Standards which will make your roads and streets safer. Under my leadership, you will see an immediate improvement in response times and maintenance to roads and streets during all seasons.

Road Complete 2030

I will introduce Road Complete 2030 — an aggressive program to finish all roads and streets in your community by 2030.

Safer Communities

I will have a Zero Tolerance for crime and you will have safer communities.

Transit & Highway Investment

I will bring GO Transit to Lindsay, and work with MTO to widen Highway 35 to four lanes in various locations and also finish Highway 7 south of Lindsay with no further delays.

Walmart for Lindsay

I will bring Walmart to Lindsay and this will be a reality under my administration. Construction will commence within 12 months of my election as your Mayor.

Support First Responders

More support for our Firefighters, Police and EMS by providing them with what they need to do their job.

Civil Defence Group

Establish a Kawartha Lakes Civil Defence group made up of well-prepared volunteers ready to go into action when an emergency arises.

Smarter Waste Management

No more costly landfill expansions. We will construct state of the art Micro Energy Centres to deal with waste to help our environment.
